You’re not stuck because you’re lazy. Or because you’re too busy. Or because you “don’t have time.” You're stuck because you don’t know what to do. Not in a tactical way — in a direction way. The "it is fuzzy". So every path forward feels risky. In my experience that’s 100% normal. It is true of all my clients. (And too often true of me) Many have strong leadership titles, good salaries, and a million tabs open. They want to start something — a consulting gig, a side income stream, maybe even an exit strategy. But when it comes time to define what to do next… they freeze. They don’t have clarity — and worse, they blame themselves for it. Here’s what I tell them: Clarity comes from action, not thinking. Stop trying to figure it all out in your head. Instead, do this: 1. Write down the last 5 times someone asked for your help. What did they ask you for? Why you? 2. Pick 3 people who might benefit from that skill. Reach out. Start a conversation. Ask about their problems — not to sell, but to listen. 3. Sketch an offer on paper. One person. One problem. One outcome. GET IN MOTION Clarity isn't a lightning bolt. It’s a breadcrumb trail. And every person I’ve helped get moving had this same realization: “I wasn’t missing direction. I was waiting for permission.” You have permission. You don’t need a business plan. You need a next step.

From Student to Systems Leader: The IEM Journey in Action We're proud to spotlight one of our exceptional alumni and IEM Ambassador, Reginald Holmes, MEng, CSEP, PMP®, who continues to raise the bar in technical leadership and innovation. Since graduating from the IEM@UAB - Information Engineering and Management in Spring 2022, Reginald has stepped into a pivotal role as Chief Systems Engineer at Northrop Grumman, leading strategy and integration across advanced engineering systems. His impact was recently recognized with the Modern-Day Technology Leader Award — a national honor celebrating emerging leaders in STEM. He’s also pursuing a Ph.D. in Systems Engineering, with a research focus on AI System Safety — a field shaping the future of technology and society. Reginald has presented at top academic forums including AI4SE and CSER, and his recent peer-reviewed paper: "Navigating Uncertainty: Enhancing AI System Safety through the Integration of Systems Theory and R3+ Concepts" dives into building AI systems that are not just capable — but robust, reliable, and resilient in the face of uncertainty. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/e864CRUT Reginald embodies what IEM is all about: turning technical skills into strategic leadership, transforming research into real-world impact, and leading with clarity and purpose. Congrats, Reginald — your journey continues to inspire the entire IEM community.
